eRNST-e.-bOESCh-Prize for cultural psychology

2023 Ernst E. Boesch Prize


The Gesellschaft für Kulturpsychologie (GK) and the Hans Kilian and Lotte Köhler Center (KKC) for Social and Cultural Psychology and Historical Anthropology are inviting nominations for the Ernst E.
Boesch Prize for outstanding scholarly work in the field of cultural psychology.


The deadline for nominations is February 28, 2023. Outstanding scientists who have contributed to the advancement and expansion of the field of cultural psychology through exceptional achievement can be nominated. The fifth award ceremony will take place during the Annual
Meeting of the Gesellschaft für Kulturpsychologie in September 2023, at the Ruhr University Bochum Germany.


The award commemorates the cultural psychologist Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Ernst Eduard Boesch who died in 2014 at the age of 97. Since 2015, the prize has been awarded every two years by the Gesellschaft für Kulturpsychologie. Since 2021 The Ernst E. Boesch Prize is announced
and awarded in cooperation with the Hans Kilian and Lotte Köhler Center (KKC) for Social and Cultural Psychology and Historical Anthropology.

 

 

The prize is awarded in two categories:


a) The Main Prize (3000 euros) is awarded for a fundamental and lasting contribution to the field, usually consisting of several publications and other scientific achievements (e.g., development of a research program, merits in teaching or institutionalization of cultural psychology).


b) The Young Researcher Award (2000 euros) is awarded for an individual contribution (e.g., an outstanding dissertation or master's thesis).


In 2021, the winner of the Main Prize was Jens Brockmeier (The American University of Paris, France) and the Young Researcher Award went to Rainer Edelbrock (University of Münster, Germany).
 

How to nominate a candidate

 

Any member of the Gesellschaft für Kulturpsychologie, as well as any scholar working at a university or comparable institution, can nominate a candidate. Self-nomination is not permitted.
 

Nominations can be submitted in German or English and must include:

  • the nominee’s curriculum vitae

  • a list of the nominee’s publications

  • an approx. one-page recommendation letter from a scholar in thefield of cultural psychology


The award winners will give a thematically relevant lecture during the
award ceremony, which will be open to the public.


The winner of the Main Prize is expected to write a short monograph, which will be published by Psychosozial-Verlag in Germany. The publication will be organized and financed by the Gesellschaft für Kulturpsychologie and the Hans Kilian and Lotte Köhler Center.
 

The selection of awardees is the responsibility of a specially appointed jury. The jury’s decision is final.
